By: William Parker

Atlanta, GA -- Voter News Network contributed $25,000 in August to Georgia's Insurance and Fire Safety Commissioner John Oxendine's re-election campaign. John Oxendine, a Republican, is seeking re-election for an unprecedented third term as Commissioner of Insurance and Fire Safety.

In 1989, he was appointed to be chairman of the State Personnel Board by then- Governor Joe Frank Harris. Oxendine ran for the Office of Insurance Commissioner in 1994 and was elected. In 1998, Oxendine ran for re-election and received 60 percent of the votes in the general election.

During his tenure in office, Oxendine has acquired additional funding to crack down on insurance companies committing fraud, reformed workers compensation coverage, improved fire safety in the State of Georgia, and improved the availability of insurance for all Georgians.
